Just found out I'm headed to Nashville (again) no surprise this time.

But a new surprise: I'm headed to the dirty-south (ATL) for a big minority convention.
And I'm not even part of the minority! Oh well, another dog-and-pony show for me.

iPhones, George Michael, and a touchscreen....

So the headline was meant to be somewhat catchy but it's not.

This past weekend, a friend of mine decided he *had* to have the new 3G Apple iPhone and stood in line for about 2 hours and nabbed a black 8GB model. Why am I telling you this? Because yours truly *also* stood in line to see the silliness of it all. Mind you, that I've done extreme lines/waits for things in the past so a two-hour leisurely wait in the morning is nothing compared to: Terminator 2 Premiere Night 1991 (3 hour wait), Star Wars Ep II (12 hour wait), CompUSA doorbuster deals (5 hours), Wal-Mart Black Friday deals (1 day) and those are just the ones I can remember right now.

Undaunted by the morning heat, my buddy waited and was able to get one set up in his name after a short registration process. And then....nothing. The Apple servers began to go down and he was unable to get the phone fully setup. "Unbelieveable" I said. "You've got a brand new phone and are about to walk out the store with it not even working."

Several hours and posts later, I got the hookup for him on how to get it working. Yay me.

George Michael was this weekend and I ended up going with several folks all distributed around the concert venue. He showed up almost an hour late for what was to be a "prompt 8PM start" (so said the ticket) but even with his tardiness, the show rocked! Oh, and I think we had the best seats in the house.
Yesterday, I got a package from China that ended up being my latest pet project: the EEE PC touchscreen mod. It came in the most basic, simple box you could imagine but...it did arrive on time. A full body dissassebly last night with little rest this morning and I'll be off to connect it later tonight to test it. Fingers crossed.

It's EEE Time

OK, so I finally plunked down to get a laptop to add more gear to the repetoire of electronics crap I've already got. Instead of opting for an easy Compaq, HP, or one of their ilk, I decided something like the Asus EEE was more my style. 2 lbs, small, compact and no moving parts.

So I didn't have Windows XP...and the manual didn't come with it (buying from CL of course) but 12 hours and a "hook-up" version later and the little netbook that could got it some version of XP/Vista(?) setup.

So now the race is on for installation of more memory, a touchscreen and a small Bluetooth dongle. GPS maybe? Nah....too much for that little thing.

As for July 4th weekend...too much drinking and eating for three days straight.
KaboomTown, Arthur's, Champps (Emerald City), Cape Buffalo, Carson's, Denny's (3AM), EPTP @ ZaZa, Paula's at home pool, Kristen & David N. pool party. My stomach hurts....
