iPhones, George Michael, and a touchscreen....

So the headline was meant to be somewhat catchy but it's not.

This past weekend, a friend of mine decided he *had* to have the new 3G Apple iPhone and stood in line for about 2 hours and nabbed a black 8GB model. Why am I telling you this? Because yours truly *also* stood in line to see the silliness of it all. Mind you, that I've done extreme lines/waits for things in the past so a two-hour leisurely wait in the morning is nothing compared to: Terminator 2 Premiere Night 1991 (3 hour wait), Star Wars Ep II (12 hour wait), CompUSA doorbuster deals (5 hours), Wal-Mart Black Friday deals (1 day) and those are just the ones I can remember right now.

Undaunted by the morning heat, my buddy waited and was able to get one set up in his name after a short registration process. And then....nothing. The Apple servers began to go down and he was unable to get the phone fully setup. "Unbelieveable" I said. "You've got a brand new phone and are about to walk out the store with it not even working."

Several hours and posts later, I got the hookup for him on how to get it working. Yay me.

George Michael was this weekend and I ended up going with several folks all distributed around the concert venue. He showed up almost an hour late for what was to be a "prompt 8PM start" (so said the ticket) but even with his tardiness, the show rocked! Oh, and I think we had the best seats in the house.
Yesterday, I got a package from China that ended up being my latest pet project: the EEE PC touchscreen mod. It came in the most basic, simple box you could imagine but...it did arrive on time. A full body dissassebly last night with little rest this morning and I'll be off to connect it later tonight to test it. Fingers crossed.
